How It Works
The unit arrives in a protective cradle, secured with ratchet straps and pins.
Containing:
• 1 Lifting beam
• 1 Guide pole
• 1 Guard rail
• 1 Gated guard rail
• 1 End shutter board
Unfasten these and attach the lifting beam to the excavator.
Position the beam over the trench support unit and lower it carefully.
Slowly lower to adequate distance to allow for the chain length.
Attach the chains to the lifting eyes and ensure both hooks are fully secured.
Disengage the Triplelock™ mechanism with one person at either end
of the unit. Ensure hands are kept clear from trapping points.
Carefully lift the PATS unit from its cradle system ensuring all
grounds personnel are at a safe distance away.
Once clear of the cradle, the unit can be carefully deployed into
the open trench with the use of the guide pole provided.
Once the unit reaches the bottom of the trench, with the use of
the guide pole, ensure the beam is in line at either end of the
centre struts. Gently push down with the excavator, ensuring
both centre struts are fully pushed down to their lock out
position. (DO NOT USE EXCESSIVE FORCE)
Leaving the lifting beam and excavator in position. Using 2
people, remove guard rails from cradle and slot into fixed sockets.
With one person at either side of the PATS unit, engage the triple lock system ensuring all four locks are locked into place.
Disconnect lifting chains from unit and attach to hooks provided.
Lift beam carefully clear of the PATS unit and stow back on carriage cradle.
Before accessing the unit ensure all 4 locks are locked off.
Personnel can now safely enter the P.A.T.S unit.
Ensure gate is fully closed when not in use!
